Peter Roskam is a highly popular congressman in his DuPage area 6th Congressional District. Consequently, the 6th District is one place where the Illinois Democrat Party isn’t willing to put much effort into claiming a seat from Republicans. But one fellow is willing to try.
Geofery Petzel, 28, a first-time candidate, has announced his desire to take Roskam’s seat for the Democrats.
Petzel’s reason for running almost speaks to the democrat’s despair about unseating Roskam. ““I’m running because we need somebody in the 6th District who will actually represent the people,” Petzel said.
We need somebody… ANYBODY… to run from the Democrat side, more like.
In his third term, Roskam rose quickly through the GOP power structure and is now the Chief Deputy Whip for the House GOP Majority so if the Dems could defeat him it would be quite a coup. But I doubt Petzel has much chance to do it.
If I were Petzel I wouldn’t twist myself up imagining I could win.
Petzel is the executive director of Friends of the Fox River, based in West Dundee, a non-profit. He also owns a business that buys run-down homes, rehabs them, and flips them.
