The embattled State Senator that made news last month for a domestic violence case — where she attacked her husband — has announced she is not running for reelection.
State Senator Suzi Schmidt (R, Lake Villa) issued a statement to the media.
I am grateful for the outpouring of support; however, at this point in my life, my personal life and my family are my priority, and I hope to dedicate more of my time with them in the coming months and years. Therefore, I will not be a candidate for re-election in 2012.
I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to my constituents for the tremendous honor and opportunity to serve in the Senate and for the opportunity to serve Lake County for the past 25 years. I am thankful for the trust they bestowed upon me to serve them for so many years. I am humbled by their unwavering support and honored to have been able to represent them.
Previous to her one term in the State Senate Schmidt was a longtime Chairman of the Lake County GOP.

economic growth in the district.
Republican candidate Michael White, his committee, and supporters have
received positive responses from District 31 voters as they circulated
nominating petitions over the last few weeks. Michael stated, “As a
candidate, petitioning is a critical part of the election process
because this is my opportunity to personally introduce myself to voters
so they will feel confident voting for me in the primary election.”
The response from District 31 voters has been extremely positive. “Time
and time again I hear voters unhappy with the “status quo” candidates
and are energized to see a new face in the political crowd.”
