Roskam Applauds House Passage of Strong Sanctions Against Iran

From the office of Rep. Peter Roskam (R, Illinois 6th District)…

WASHINGTON – Chief Deputy Majority Whip Peter Roskam (IL-06) issued the following statement after the House passed the Iran Threat Reduction Act, a bill to reinforce sanctions on Iran.

“With Iran inching dangerously close to nuclear capability, America’s economic and diplomatic tools must be as robust as possible. The Iran Threat Reductions Act equips the Administration with tough new sanctions that will help choke off Iran’s economic engine. It’s essential we explore all diplomatic and sanction-based routes. Military action must be a last resort, though it’s important that option is on the table. That’s why Secretary Panetta’s recent comments about Iran’s nuclear program we’re so troubling. How do we expect American sanctions and diplomacy to have an impact if they aren’t backed by a credible threat of force?”
