Quinn Appoints Another Former Legislator Who Voted, like Frerichs, for Tax Hike
CHAMPAIGN, IL (February 17, 2012) — Republican Candidate for the 52nd District State Senate seat John Bambenek released a statement today following the announcement of the appointment of former State Representative Bob Flider of Mt. Zion, who will run the Illinois Department of Agriculture. Flider received the appointment following his defeat in the last election. As his term drew to a close, just prior to his appointment, he voted for the tax hike that he had previously campaigned against.
“Representative Flider, like my opponent, State Senator Mike Frerichs, voted for the midnight tax hike which has done nothing to improve the economic situation and budget of the state. While running for office, Flider had not favored tax hikes – but changed his view upon losing the election before leaving office, and has since received an appointment for which he lacks substantial qualifications. ”
Bambenek continued, “In addition, Representative Flider will receive pension benefits based on his years of service and his new, higher, department salary. Appointments such as Flider’s are a demonstration of the current leadership’s lack of fiscal responsibility, as well as of the relationship between Quinn and his appointee’s voting record in favor of increasing taxes. “
Other appointees have admitted to discussing their votes with Quinn regarding the midnight tax hike, as well as getting appointments in his administration.
