There is a bit of skullduggery afoot in the Cook County GOP (I know, I know, that’s not really news). It appears that a GOP committeeman that was appointed to an open seat was summarily dismissed by the newly minted head of the Cook GOP, Sig Vaznelis.
No cause was given for the action but Eva Sorock spies a reason. The committeeman fired, Bill Cadigan, has come out in support of Cook Country Board of Review incumbent Dan Patlak and Vaznelis is in thrall to Liz Gorman who has come out for Patlak’s opponent, Sean Morrison.
Sorock writes:
New Trier Republican Committeeman Bill Cadigan, who was appointed to fill Tolbert Chisum’s position, was peremptorily fired today by the chairman of the Cook County Republican Party, Sig Vaznelis. No specific reason was given in the letter that was delivered to the township office this morning, but Cadigan has strongly supported Dan Patlak in the GOP primary for commissioner of the Board of (Tax) Review. Vaznelis is connected to Elizabeth Doody Gorman, the south side Orland Park committeeman who joined in the vicious negative campaign against Patlak.
Sorock goes on to say that Morrison has created a web of lies with his campaign against Patlak.
So, did Gorman pressure her lackey Vaznelis to dump Cadigan because he is supporting Patlak?
Inquiring minds want to know.

**UPDATE
Illinois Reveiw has the letter Cadigan received and a bit more on this tale of backroom, double dealing.

Good for Cadigan for standing up to these low lifes. They should stay in south Cook County where they belong.
