From the office of Rep. Peter Roskam (R, Illinois 6th District)…
WASHINGTON – Congressman Peter Roskam (IL-06) released the latest installment of Ask Peter today, a frequent video conversation with Sixth District residents about issues important to them. In this segment, Congressman Roskam responded to an email from John Litz about the Supreme Court ruling on Obamacare and what the House will do to repeal it.
Ask Peter videos will be available to the public at Roskam.house.gov, facebook.com/reproskam, twitter.com/peterroskam, and via press release. The videos will also be sent to the constituents via e-mail, Facebook, or Twitter, depending on how they contacted the Roskam office.
I’m Congressman Peter Roskam, welcome back to Ask Peter.
I got an email from John Litz of Wheaton, who is very concerned about the direction that the county is going in light of the Supreme Court Decision.
Good news John, is that the country gets the last word. The public gets the last word on this, and they ultimately get to choose the direction that we’re going.
Now, the court made a decision upholding the constitutionality of the law but they weren’t dealing with the effectiveness of it or the practicality of it.
But they said an interesting thing. They said that the law creates a massive new tax.
Which means that unfortunately, President Obama has now broken his promise not to raise taxes on middle-class families.
We’ve got a lot of work to do from here because this law needs to be repealed. It continues to push costs up. It is a massive expense, $1.5 trillion that we don’t have.
It also means that families that like their healthcare coverage aren’t able to keep their coverage in many cases, because employers may be forced under this new law to move away from offering this coverage.
So what do we do?
On July 11th the House of Representatives is going to take up a bill to repeal this law.
The court may say it’s ok, but we know better. So let’s repeal it and let’s move forward.
I need to hear from you. I need to hear by email, phone, fax, letter, send a card.
I’m Congressman Peter Roskam. Thanks for watching.
