Senate Candidate John Bambenek Slams Senator Frerichs as out of Touch for Traveling to China during Fiscal Crisis
CHAMPAIGN, IL (August 13, 2012) – Senate candidate John Bambenek today responded to the news that State Senator Michael Frerichs spent time in China recently in what appeared to be a legislator junket while the unemployment numbers of the district were released showing unemployment grew almost 2% in June alone.
“We are in the middle of the worst drought in almost a century and jobs are fleeing Illinois. Unemployment is up to 10.5% in Vermilion County alone. The hard-working people of this district are suffering; now is not the time for their State Senator to be on a world-tour in China. It is clear that Senator Frerichs has forgotten his roots,” said Bambenek.
Currently, area farmers are facing significant crop loss, with many farmers expected a total loss on their yields. Additionally, several major legislative issues remain unresolved including pension reform, comprehensive workers compensation reform and getting control of the state budget that’s drowning in red ink and debt.
“Illinois needs leaders who are working for the people. Frerichs, however, shows he is out of touch with the voters of the district. Instead of showing leadership, he is out of the country instead of working to solve the problems he created,” according to Bambenek.
