From the office of Rep. Joe Walsh (R, Illinois 8th District)…
Monday night, 8th congressional district candidate, Tammy Duckworth, addressed the opening night of the Democratic National Convention. Following the address, Republican Congressman Joe Walsh (IL-8) released the following response:
“Tonight my opponent, Tammy Duckworth, took the stage at the Democratic National Convention for her chance in the national spotlight and to showcase her being the preferred pick of party insiders.
“Ms. Duckworth says that she wants to ‘keep moving forward’ in the direction President Obama has taken us these past four years. Forward? 23 million Americans who need jobs didn’t get up and go to work this morning and our national debt topped $16 trillion just this afternoon. What’s most fundamentally concerning, Ms. Duckworth wants to move ‘forward’ with the same ideas that don’t believe our small business owners are the builders of this nation’s greatness.
“That clearly explains why Ms. Duckworth thanked God repeatedly for the existence of government programs like food stamps. A record 46 million Americans are now on food stamps. That’s not greatness – that’s decline. That’s why I thank God for the hard work, ingenuity and determination of the American people to create opportunities for themselves and build a better life for their families. We must lower taxes and remove burdensome regulations on small businesses to get government off their backs so they can grow again.”
