(CHAMPAIGN) – Senate candidate John Bambenek today released a statement in response to Senator Frerichs’ shameless character attacks regarding the filing of a lawsuit to invalidate the pension constitutional amendment on the ballot. Bambenek filed suit with other area plaintiffs because the ballot is “inaccurate, deceptive and incomprehensible”.
“As absentee and early voting began, I started receiving calls from many constituents who were confused by the ballot. Reading it myself, I found incorrect information and I had trouble making heads or tails of it. For something as important as a constitution, we should not shroud the ballot with confusing and inaccurate language that prevents voters from having an informed choice. On the ballot, politicians need to play it straight.
I filed this lawsuit to protect voters from Chicago-style political tricks. Senator Frerichs, however, used it as a chance to score political points by leveling baseless character attacks. I have no intention to engage in a duel of press releases. This is an area in which the State Senator and I agree. I think it is time to put aside political posturing and to stand tall for our downstate constituents. I am asking Senator Frerichs to join me in court to stand up to Chicago-style election games to hijack the constitution. Our state needs leaders who will work across the aisle. Senator Frerichs, will you stand tall for downstate with me against John Cullerton and protect the voters from a shameless attempt by Chicago to cheat the voters?”
