From the campaign of John Bambenek for State Senate (52nd District)…
(CHAMPAIGN) – Senate candidate John Bambenek today released a statement regarding Senator Frerichs’ receiving over $10,000 more per year in his six years of service as a State Senator while unemployment exploded. Additionally, his wife Laura who was cited in a 2009 AP article (attached) about her employment at the University of Illinois has received a $10,000 raise and promotion in just two years at the University. Both raises are available to be seen at Open The Books (openthebooks.com and mobile application) website promoting government transparency.
“Since Mike Frerichs hiked income taxes in January 2011, 5511 less people are working in Champaign and Vermilion Counties. Wages are down, inflation is up and taxes are being hiked everywhere. Not everyone is suffering though, during his tenure in office, Senator Frerichs now makes over $10,000 more per year as a State Senator. Additionally, his wife at the University of Illinois also received an over $10,000 pay raise. Senator Frerichs wants to make the tax hike permanent and hike taxes by billions more while I think it is time to reign in politician pay, perks and pensions. I will vote to freeze property taxes and bring politician pay back down to earth. While hardworking families are suffering, politicians shouldn’t be hiking their own pay and making a better life for themselves on the backs of taxpayers,” said Bambenek.
