The Illinois legislature took another step closer to awarding legal drivers licenses to people that are already criminals in the waning hours of the lame duck session in Springfield.
The bill to give lawbreakers a drivers license has passed out of committee and could come up for a vote of the full House any time today.
The licenses for illegals drive has been rather swift as far as Illinois government efforts go. This one has only been in the works for a few months and is already only a few steps away from landing on Gov. Pat Quinn’s desk.
Under the bill, an illegal alien would have to be able to prove Illinois residence for a year before being awarded the identification card. A lease or utility bill will serve as proof.
As the law in the Land of Lincoln currently stands, license applicants must have a Social Security card number or legal immigration documentation to get a drivers license.
Even worse, illegal aliens won’t have to prove they have insurance to get the licenses.
If the House votes to approve this bill, it will go to the Gov. as it has already passed the Senate.
