From Americans For Prosperity-Illinois…
Tomorrow, when Governor Pat Quinn presents his budget proposal for next year, please listen specifically for whether or not he and the General Assembly will keep their word to taxpayers and keep the 67% income tax hike temporary, as they promised.
When the state’s largest increase in the income tax passed in the wee hours of the last day of a lame duck session in 2011, Senate President John Cullerton (D-Chicago) said: “This, again, is a temporary tax.”
Now, some in the Statehouse seek to make that temporary increase permanent:
“I don’t think there’s anyone in this building who doesn’t believe we need to extend the income tax increase.” -Deputy House Majority Leader Lou Lang (D-Skokie).
“Including the income tax increase as part of the solution, to me, is already being part of the (pension) solution.” -Assistant House Majority Leader Elaine Nekritz (D-Northbrook)
“We’re a wealthy state and a pretty low-taxed state.” -State Representative Naomi Jakobsson (D-Champaign) upon introducing legislation (HJRCA 2) to switch Illinois from a flat tax to a progressive tax.
Politicians in Springfield seem to believe the taxpayers of Illinois have too much money lying around, and they want us to continue their spending addiction. The unfortunate reality is the state of Illinois collected a record amount of revenue this past year.
Contact your legislators by clicking Tell our politicians to keep their promises and allow the 67% income tax hike to sunset!
Illinois can be restored to its rightful place as the economic engine of the Midwest, but not with high tax and over-spending policies such as these. Tell your legislators we need lower taxes to encourage opportunity and unleash the ingenuity that built this great state.
Thank you for all that you do on behalf of economic freedom.
