Two Ill Congressman Celebrate Obamacare Defunding

-By Warner Todd Huston

Today the House of Representatives passed a continuing resolution budget that would pay for everything the federal government does except for one thing: Obamacare. So, Republicans lived up to their pledge to pass a budget that didn’t allot a penny to Obama’s government takeover of our healthcare system even as it funds everything else.

Two Illinois Republican Congressmen who voted “yes” on this CR have issued statements on the historic move.

Congressman Adam Kinzinger of the 16th District said that, “House Republicans today voted to fully fund the federal government while at the same time protecting the American people from the ravages of the President’s unworkable healthcare law. It is now up to our colleagues in the Senate to continue this fight.”

Another Congressman, Randy Hultgren of the 14th District, also trumpeted the vote.

“Today, the House acted to keep our government open and slow down Obamacare’s federalization of health insurance,” said Hultgren. “We must ensure our soldiers get paid and that permits and loans crucial to our industries are not delayed. But as we hear about more businesses cutting back hours and healthcare coverage as they anticipate higher costs under Obamacare, it’s clear this law is doing more harm than good. It is already evident in plans being offered in many states that consumers won’t be to keep the doctor of their choice or even stick with a company they trust.

“Let’s slow down this law and look for simpler and smarter healthcare solutions. The Republican Study Committee, for instance, has introduced an alternative which focuses on reducing costs and improving choice—reforming the system while protecting those with pre-existing conditions. Let’s keep looking for additional ways to improve our healthcare system and stop this unaffordable care act from doing more damage.

“As the October deadline approaches for open enrollment in the state exchanges, residents in Illinois are still without details on the plans that will be available or how much they’ll cost. The state needs to be forthcoming about what’s up ahead for its residents.”

If more Illinois GOP congressmen issue a statement I will update this post.
