WASHINGTON – Congressman Joe Walsh (IL-8) released the following statement after voting in favor of the Violence Against Women Act Reauthorization of 2012 (VAWA) that passed the House.

Walsh stated, “It is our duty as both Americans and Members of Congress to stand up against domestic violence. Victims of domestic violence should be protected by all levels of government: local, state, and federal. Since the original legislation passed in 1994, the number of annual incidents has decreased by 53%, while the number of reported incidents has increased by 51%. This is evidence that VAWA is making a difference and keeping victims safe.

“Our country was founded on the principle that the core unit which determines the strength of any society is the family; therefore the government should foster and protect its integrity. This bill does just that. It is crucial that we maintain a presence on this issue and continue to fight to end domestic violence in this country. This question was asked to me during the debate. I promised that since the vote was this week, I would let people know how I voted and why.”

H.R. 4970 Violence Against Women Act Reauthorization of 2012 (VAWA) passed the House by a vote of 222-205. This bill reauthorizes funding for VAWA grant programs for 5 years and provides more than $660 million annually to help protect victims of abuse and prevent domestic violence.

Senate once again fails to pass budget or propose alternative

EAST MOLINE, Ill.—With a unanimous 99-0 rejection of President Obama’s budget proposal, the U.S. Senate has now extended their streak of fiscal inaction to 1,114 days. Frustrated by the Senate’s refusal to lead, U.S. Rep. Bobby Schilling (R-Ill.) came forward today with a message for the upper chamber:

“If I can lead by example, so can you.”

“As elected officials, we are supposed to lead,” Schilling said. “We do that by setting an example. It’s time for Harry Reid and Dick Durbin to get their act together, put a pen to paper, and come up with their own budget proposal.”

Schilling highlighted his own record in his first term in the U.S. House of Representatives to make his point.

“I haven’t even been in Washington for two full years yet, and I’ve voted to pass two different budgets,” Schilling said. “On top of that, I voted to cut my office budget by more than ten percent, and I returned an additional $110,000 from my 2011 budget to the taxpayers.”

After Wednesday’s vote, the Senate has now unanimously rejected two iterations of President Obama’s budget and refused to bring two separate House budgets up for a vote. In fact, Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.) in a July floor speech called voting on budgets a “waste [of] the Senate’s time.”

Last September, Schilling introduced H.Con.Res. 82, the Govern Before Going Home Resolution, which would prohibit the House or Senate from adjourning for any period three days or longer until they pass a budget for the current fiscal year. This would also apply to regular appropriations bills. He also co-sponsored the bipartisan No Budget, No Pay Act, a bill which would strip lawmakers of their salaries until they have passed a budget for the current fiscal year.

“I didn’t run for Congress to accept the status quo—I ran to change ‘business as usual’ in Washington,” Schilling said. “Passing a budget is one of the most basic duties of a responsible government. We have an obligation to get this done.”

Even with the No Budget, No Pay Act’s failure to pass, Schilling kept the pressure on both himself and his colleagues by voting to freeze congressional salaries for both fiscal years 2011 and 2012.

Schilling pointed to the STOCK Act as an example of an instance where bipartisan teams from both chambers of Congress can work together and do the right thing for the people.

“We can do this,” Schilling said. “We’ve made leading by example a priority, and I’m calling on the Senate to do the same.”

Bobby Schilling, a native of Rock Island, Ill., graduated from Alleman High School and attended Black Hawk College. Schilling, a local business owner, was elected to his first term in the U.S. House of Representatives in 2010. Schilling rejected the congressional pension, turned down the congressional health care plan, and pledged to oppose all congressional pay increases. Schilling, who represents the Illinois 17th District, lives in Colona, Ill. with his wife and ten children.

Free Our Kids from Arne Duncan: It should come as no surprise when President Obama says he sees much of the growth in support for same sex marriage as “generational,” with strong support coming from our youth. It Worked: While Wisconsin chose Walker, California and Illinois chose polar opposites. LikeWalker’s current recall opponent, those two un-Walker governors ran on empty feel-good rhetoric with no fiscal plan to offer voters. Once elected, they raised taxes, cut services, laid of workers, and laid the lumber to businesses with taxes, fees, fines, and regulatory looting. Both states have melted down, and their wealthy citizens and businesses are fleeing. That is what didn’t work – taxing and spending and debt and central control.

Demands vote to put an end to Members’ pay if an annual budget is not passed

WASHINGTON – Today Congressman Joe Walsh (IL-8) doubled down on his support for the bipartisan No Budget, No Pay Act. The bill states that if Congress does not pass a budget and all appropriations bills by October 1st every year, then Members of Congress do not get paid. Congressman Walsh is a co-sponsor of this legislation and a member of the Fix Congress Now Caucus.

Walsh stated: “The No Budget, No Pay Act is simple –if we don’t do our work, we don’t get paid. It has been more than 1,000 days since Congress has passed a budget and 15 years since appropriation bills were passed on time. This is absolutely unacceptable and a complete failure.

“I came to Washington to change the way this town does business. This bill brings us one step closer to ending a dysfunctional Congress. Americans work hard to earn their paychecks and Members of Congress should not be any different. I took an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution, and we have a Constitutional responsibility to pass a budget. If we don’t do the work, then we shouldn’t get paid either. I plan to push this legislation in the coming weeks. The first step is encouraging House Leadership to bring this up for a vote immediately.”

Following meeting with Air Force officials, bipartisan duo says more work to be done

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Mark R. Warner (D-VA) and Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL-11) today held a media conference call following the Pentagon’s announcement on the F-22 Raptor. U.S. Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta today instructed the Air Force to restrict F-22 flight activities, and to work with NASA and the Navy to find solutions to F-22 oxygen-deprivation issues; a direct result from Sen. Warner and Rep. Kinzinger’s continued pressure on the Secretary of the Air Force to take these actions.

In the conference call, Sen. Warner and Rep. Kinzinger explained that while they are pleased with the progress made so far, there is more work to be done to ensure the safety of the pilots and to strengthen the F-22 Raptor program:

“Secretary Panetta’s actions are a strong start, but I remain disappointed in the response of the Air Force so far,” Sen. Warner said. “The safety of these pilots and our military communities is paramount, and it is imperative that the Air Force allows pilots and flight surgeons to express their views without a threat of reprisals. We also need to reach out to a broader array of expertise in order to fix this aircraft.”

“The F-22 Raptor is essential to a strong national defense in this country,” Rep. Kinzinger said. “However, we must ensure this program is running at 100 percent and at this time, it is not. Senator Warner and I have grave concerns over the condition of the F-22 and are committed to making sure these pilots are safe and free from retribution. After today’s briefing, I am hopeful that the Air Force will work with us to resolve this issue expeditiously.”

After Joe and Tammy finally sat down for their first debate, what we already knew became even more clear: Tammy Duckworth is out of touch with the voters of the 8th Congressional District, and has no interest in their opinions. Duckworth quipped, “There’s not been a ‘crackpot’ Tea Party idea that he hasn’t embraced.” Even moderator Rick Pearson of the Tribune intervened to ask if she really meant “crackpot”, and Duckworth doubled down to say “absolutely!”

It’s no wonder NBC called Joe Walsh the winner of the debate and stated, “Walsh used his superior rhetorical and public speaking skills to portray himself as a reasonable, fiscally-responsible congressman, and Duckworth as a servant of the special interests.”

10th CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT CONGRESSMAN DOLD

On Wednesday, U.S. Congressman Robert Dold introduced HR 5650, the Protecting Women’s Access to Healthcare Act. In his introduction of this egregious bill, Congressman Dold said, “As a pro-choice Republican, I believe that this legislation is critical because it insures non-discrimination within the Federal Title X family planning program. We have seen several attempts to block funds and exclude health care providers from participating in the Title X program, simply because they separately offer services beyond the scope of Title X. We should not discriminate against hospitals and organizations that provide access to basic preventative and in some cases, lifesaving services for so many underprivileged women through Title X.”

Standing with Representative Bob Dold as he introduced HR 5650 was Darlene Crocket of Planned Parenthood and Candy Straight and Susan Bevan with Republican Majority for Choice.

Representative Dold is critical of his fellow Republican for seeking to block funds from Title X, “simply because they separately offer services beyond the scope of Title X.” What he fails to mention is that these “services” refer exclusively to abortion.

Representative Mike Pence introduced the Pence Amendment last February. This amendment would defund Planned Parenthood because, although Planned Parenthood has been banned from using federal funds for abortions, the loophole allows Title X to free up other money that can be indirectly used for abortion. Representative Pence said, “We should end the day when the largest abortion provider is the largest recipient of Title X federal funding. What’s clear to me, if you follow the money, you can actually take the funding supports out of abortion. We then have a much better opportunity to move forward to be a society that says yes to life.” The Pence Amendment was passed by the House in February with Representative Dold voting against the amendment.

Lake County Right to Life supports the Pence Amendment and strongly opposes Representative Dold’s attempt to use taxpayer funding for abortion.

Until you start knocking on doors and talking to folks in the collar counties you are only guessing what issues influence the voters. Personal PAC and Dee Liberal are hung up on featuring gay marriage and easy and free access to abortion. When I knock on doors in Kane County, and someone asks “pro-life or pro-choice?”, they are almost always looking for the answer of “pro-life.” Dee Liberal does not have a background in finance, job creation, or economic development. How in the world is more abortion and diminishing traditional marriage going to get people back to work or help people stay in their homes?

This is why the value proposition of the Dee Beaubien candidacy is close to nil.
